The first step of any successful project is always to set your intention. A career coach would say set your goal(s) in life. A soldier would say “This is my mission…”

As someone running a home business using the product sourcing for Ebay strategy, you would say “The reason I am running this business is …”. This is my reason: “… to work for myself and control how I use my own time and energy.” What is your reason? Is it to make a downpayment for a new home? Or is it something else?

From this general goal, you need to set the specifics of your goal – how do you know when you have reached it? Mine is simple: “To earn $10000 every month while working 20 hours a week by the time I reach 40 years old.” What are the specifics of your goal for product sourcing for Ebay? Maybe to save $50000 in two years?

Next, you need to set up your budget and schedule. How much time can you afford to spend on your Ebay business? How much cash can you afford to spend on this project? In its most basic form, working with wholesalers for ebay sellers, the cost of running your business is very low. However, more experienced Ebay sellers sometimes buy additional advertisements to speed up their sales. Some people buy classified ads in the newspapers. Others buy classified ads online, or use pay-per-click advertisements like Google or Yahoo.

Besides the cash budget, you need to set your time budget. How many hours a week can you spend on your product sourcing for Ebay strategy? 5 hours? 10 hours? 20 hours or more?

Can you reconcile your budget and schedule against your goal? Although this is quite early in the process, when you say “I want to save $50000 in two years by putting in 10 hours every week”, does this make sense to you? Many people find that how they feel at this stage strongly determines their success. If you do not feel confident or comfortable, you should change things around until both your goal and your budget/schedule feels right to you.
